French Exchange 2017

French Exchange 2017

Lycée Notre Dame le Ménimur

Friday was a bit sad for the host sisters and their French students as they bid farewell to each other.  The French girls decided to try out the "Stripey Dress" uniform for the day!

We have thoroughly enjoyed the French Exchange and learning about the difference in cultures.  For now we say  Au Revoir but we look forward to future exchanges with Vannes.

We welcomed our French visitors to Assembly on Thursday. Madame Gobin thanked the College for the experience and presented to Mrs Pawsey a beautiful gift from Vannes.

We enjoyed a presentation the group had prepared and the French girls each took turns speaking in English throughout.

Ursie Bear made a surprise appearance to present each of the visitors with an Australian Flag pin, Serviam badge and a huge hug!

On Wednesday afternoon the group had a short drive to Highfields Pioneer Village.  The Pioneer Village is a collection of historic buildings and relics lovingly managed by volunteers who also demonstrate various tasks undertaken by our pioneers.  The girls learned how to make Damper (a traditional Australian bread usually prepared by stockmen or travellers and baked in the coals of a campfire)

The girls walked around the Village exploring old cars, bikes, Fire Engines and an old chapel.  They even found a horse wandering around!

Sitting under a shady tree (like true Aussies!) they then experienced an Indigenous Aboriginal display of Didgeridoo playing, dance and boomerang throwing.

French classes for St Ursula's students became interactive this week with our French sisters joining the class and helping to refine their language skills.

On Wednesday our visiting French student Ysaure celebrated her birthday in Australia!  The French group gathered with their host sisters to celebrate with cupcakes for morning tea!

After a very hot weekend where Toowoomba experienced record-breaking temperatures, the College gathered together on Monday for the annual Swimming Carnival.  Each "House" has a designated colour and the students immerse in House spirit by dressing up according to their colour.

Monday was another hot day, and after spending time at the pool the girls were relieved to be back on campus and relaxing with an indigenous art class with Mrs Meibusch .

The Mayor of Toowoomba warmly greeted our French guests with a morning tea on Friday morning.  The Mayor spoke of the rich resources the Darling Downs has to offer not only the region but internationally, our proud multi cultural community, and the beautiful parks and gardens that come alive in Spring.

The group thanked The Mayor and presented him with a book from their home in Vannes  "The Gulf of Morbihan" detailing the natural harbour in the south of Brittany close to Vannes.

After refreshments the group had photos on the front steps of the Council Chambers and in front of some local artwork nearby.

The afternoon was spent shopping at Grand Central and the chance to enjoy some air conditioned comfort and escape the heat!

After a successful tour to Vannes in November 2016, 15 students from our sister school Lycée Notre Dame le Ménimur. arrived in Toowoomba on Friday 3rd February ready to experience life in sunny Queensland for the next two weeks.

The St Ursula's College host students were excited to greet their sisters and show them around the College and experience life down under.  Friday was a hot day and quite a difference from the winter they left behind in France!

The group enjoyed morning tea together before heading off to classes for the afternoon.  Although tired from their long trip, the French students were excited to begin exploring with their host families over the weekend.
